Dairy Impact Stories: Cyprian Kunaka

Posted on Thursday, May 19, 2022

Cyprian Kunaka is a young dairy farmer running a medium-scale dairy enterprise at Bela Vista Farm which is located in Ruwa in Mashonaland East province. As a beneficiary of the Matching Grants Facility, Cyprian invested in 10 in-calf heifers in 2020. Through the facility, he also invested in a modern six-point milking parlour. He contributed 30% towards the construction of the milking parlour as part of his match.

Before, Cyprian was milking 37 cows producing at least 620 litres of milk per day. He was milking his herd using a three-point bucket system which at times compromised on quality due to double handling.

The farm is now achieving at least 2,000 litres of milk per day translating to an increased income.

Upgrading the milking parlour has led to the increased milking points, addition of a pipeline, milk receiver, milk meters and also a milk filtration system. This has significantly improved milk quality as there is no longer any double handling of milk when using the bucket system which can cause contamination.
