The Transforming Zimbabwe’s Dairy Value Chain for the Future (TranZDVC) project team was on Star FM Zimbabwe's Farmers' Forum radio show on 29 November 2022. Portia Makunde, the Dairy Value Chain Specialist and Marlon Gwede, a dairy farmer in the Chitomborwizi area of Mashonaland West province, represented TranZDVC.
Marlon gave an overview of how the project has transformed his dairy enterprise established in 2016, particularly focusing on the Matching Grants Facility, on-farm feed production and the capacity building he has received from the project. Portia highlighted the successes scored by the project to date, covering interventions such as reducing the cost of feed, farmer trainings, Matching Grants Facility, artificial insemination and the development of a dairy sector strategic plan.
Portia's presentation also covered the development and depolyment of a dairy electronic database, harmonisation of dairy standards and promotion of green technologies.
